White beard and bushy eyebrows, with the voice and appearance of a druid priest. Has lived all his life in Valley Fields, and does not get around much. Has been compiling a history of Valley Fields for a considerable time. Favorite author: Leila Yorke. Has a rich brother Charles who lives in America and falls out of his aeroplane during the course of Ice in the Bedroom, leaving a $3-4 million fortune to his brother Percy, who then lends £3000 so that Freddie Widgeon can start his coffee plantation in Kenya.
