Claude Cattermole "Catsmeat" Potter-Pirbright, son of a writer
of theater music and a New York actress named Elsie
Cattermole; brother of Cora Pirbright. Was at Rev. Upjohn's
prep school with Bertie, where the Rev. Aubrey described
him as "brilliant but unsound." Now an actor who plays
"Freddie" roles in Society comedies (the lighthearted friend
of the hero carrying the second love interest). Graduate of
Oxford and a Drone, distinguished for his imitations of
Beatrice Lillie, and for once having hit the game pie six times
with six consecutive rolls from the far window of the Drones'
dining room, as recalled in The Code of the Woosters.
Cited in Uncle Fred in the Springtime as a snappy
dresser, the modern Brummel. Engaged to Gertrude Winkworth
in The Mating Season. Leaving for Hollywood in
Jeeves and the Feudal Spirit; specializes
in juvenile roles in Jeeves and the Greasy Bird and
Stylish Stouts, using the stage name
Claude Cattermole. Recalled in Much Obliged, Jeeves as having told Bertie
a disgusting (but otherwise unspecified) anecdote at the
Drones.
