Т.е. если буквально это выражение означает "проводить линию через", проходить через что-то, миновать что-л.,
то в переносном смысле есть три значения, близко между собой связанные:
1) Takе a line through NN - судить на основании примера или опыта NN, судить по NN
2) - 3)Taking a line through NN - исходя из (данных) NN, (можно сделать вывод), обозревая документы NN и XX, можно сделать общий вывод.

Т.е. я вынужден признать правоту Demi.
